Osteopathy at Levity

The Osteopathic philosophy is that “structure governs function.”

This simply means that if the structure of the body is not optimal, the function of the body is likely to be affected through dysfunction of the nerves, blood supply, lymphatic and venous system which will then affect the function of glands, organs and muscle tissue.

Osteopaths view the body as a single, integrated unit and understand that restriction in any joints or muscles can cause disturbances that affect the body as a whole. The goal of an Osteopath is to address the underlying cause of a patient’s symptoms and to help resolve the issue.

It is important to point out that there may be areas within the body that are contributing to a major dysfunction but are not currently painful. For example, a restriction in the pelvis has the ability to set off a chain reaction within the body resulting in frequent, unresolvable neck pain and headaches.

During consultation, our Osteopath begins by taking a full health history followed by a ‘head to toe’ assessment to identify which area of the body requires treatment. Gentle hands-on techniques to address mechanical dysfunctions include fascial / soft tissue release, muscle energy and cranio-sacral therapy.

Common conditions that can be addressed through Osteopathy are headaches, back pain, neck pain, RSI, stress, anxiety and sports injuries.

Most health funds provide rebates for Osteopathic treatment.  Please contact your health fund to check for eligibility.

Client Story

Chris Jones

"I first saw Dr Richard Moore at Levity Health in 2006, my reason for seeing him was a 'nagging' hip pain when I was running. I was also aware that I had a significant side curve (scoliosis) of the spine, which I'd been unable to improve through stretching and strengthening exercises. After only two or three visits to see Richard and a few weeks off running I no longer had hip pain and my scoliosis was vastly improved. What Richard had done to effect these changes was to improve the underlying structure and get to the actual cause of the issues and not just treat my symptoms.

Richard's techniques were very gentle and not forceful, which I believe has helped my body accept and hold the adjustments. My body has been encouraged to heal itself as opposed to having a treatment forced upon it. I now choose to see Richard two or three times a year for a 'tune up' and have had no pain in my body what-so-ever since I saw him, despite a signifiant volume of triathlon training.

As an Exercise and Lifestyle coach I have referred many clients to Richard for osteopathic and / or medical help where I believe his level of expertise is needed. There is one consistent outcome that keeps me referring my clients to him, they get results!

As both an athlete and an exercise professional I am indebted to the exceptional skills, holistic practices and professionalism of the practitioners at Levity Health and fully recommend them to anyone seeking optimum health, function and performance."
