Medicine

Medicine

More and more, common healthcare practices are focusing on treating the symptom rather than the cause. We focus on treatment of the person not the “dis-ease” and use nutrition, powerful natural herbs, and vitamins to support the body’s natural healing ability.

Our fully qualified Western Medical Practitioner has studied at a postgraduate level through ACNEM (Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine) and represents a fusion of East and West healing traditions.

Using Nutrition, Osteopathy, Medicine and Acupuncture he shows clients how to support their bodies while also identifying possible environmental factors or stress that are having a negative impact on overall well-being.

Kinesiology

Kinesiology

Fitness First Magazine Free Offer

How can Kinesiology assist you?

Kinesiology is a powerful natural therapy which aims at uncovering and treating the core cause or stress behind your presenting symptoms.

During a Kinesiology balance we use gentle muscle monitoring to assess your overall state of health and wellbeing (physical, mental, emotional and biochemical).

The body is like a computer that records everything that happens in your life through cellular memory. Muscle monitoring is a technique used to tap into this wealth of information to help you understand what is going on and provides techniques to assist the body’s natural healing process.

“Your body knows what’s wrong with it, when the problem started, and what it needs to regain balance”.

Each treatment is individual, utilising information gained from muscle monitoring, to help you identify elements that are inhibiting your natural state of health.

What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology takes a holistic approach to healing and recognises the importance of all three elements of the body, mind and spirit in health. A fundamental principle of Kinesiology is that the body has innate healing energy and is always doing its best to bring itself back into balance.

Stress can cause an imbalance in the body on any level. This stress may show up for a person physically, mentally or emotionally and can present itself as depression, learning difficulties, nervous or digestive disorders or physical pain to name a few.

One of the strengths of kinesiology is that it is not limited to dealing with symptoms or ailments; it’s also a way of looking beyond the symptoms or stressful situations to the beliefs that are creating them.

Changing your core beliefs can create a change in your behavior, expectations, health and energy levels. In this way, Kinesiology taps into energies that our conscious mind, or more conventional modalities, may overlook.

Energy balancing brings a person closer to achieving any goal of their choice – in health, sport, learning or coping with life generally.

How does a Kinesiology Session Work?

Kinesiology is based on philosophies from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chiropractic understandings, Kinesiology uses muscle monitoring (biofeedback between the body and nervous system) to look at what may be causing stress in the body.

The human nervous system is designed to adapt to change or stress. When we cannot adapt efficiently, muscles reflect the stress in the central nervous system. This stress creates specific muscle patterns that Kinesiology can identify using ‘muscle monitoring’ techniques.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles, utilise the flow of energy in the body as it relates to muscles, tissue and organs. Stress can lead to an imbalance in one or more meridians; meridian energy can also be evaluated by muscle monitoring. Thus, using muscle monitoring we are assessing the body’s overall condition of structural, chemical, or emotional balance.

During a session, a Kinesiologist seeks to help determine & resolve the underlying cause of the stress response, rather than just treating symptoms.

How often would I see you?

This is largely dependent on the individual, and presenting symptoms. Many people notice difference after just one session and with others it can take a little longer.

Generally a series of three sessions is recommended and sessions might be 2 or 3 weeks apart. This allows for deeper exploration which can lead to more profound results.

Call (02) 9389 0278 and mention the Fitness First Magazine for $40 off your first consultation with our Kinesiologist (Roz). First consultations with our Kinesiologist are 90 minutes in length. To read more about Roz Hawkins, please click here.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Did you know that your body is not actually solid? Using powerful microscopes scientists have looked into cells and atoms and now proven what ancient cultures have thought for millennia – that every living thing is actually made of energy.

The reason Acupuncture is so effective is it works with the substance you are made from – energy – and helps balance the flow of energy through your meridian system (meridians are for energy what veins are for blood). Anyone with blocked energy (this means any discomfort whatsoever) can benefit from Acupuncture treatment.

Lifestyle Coaching

Lifestyle Coaching

How can someone coach me on lifestyle? What does lifestyle have to do with my goals or my health?

Research has shown that up to 98% of who we are, what we look like and how we feel is due to our environment. That leaves a tiny 2% we can blame on genetics.

Lifestyle coaching is about showing you how you can apply the 6 foundational principles of health to feel and look fantastic from the inside out.

The best thing about the 6 foundational principles is you are doing them already:

  • Thoughts
  • Breathing
  • Hydration
  • Nutrition
  • Movement
  • Rhythm / Sleep

Understanding how you can manipulate each of these principles will allow you to profoundly improve your health and well-being.

You’ll be able to design your lifestyle to allow your body to do what it naturally does best – heal, relax, sleep, focus, stay youthful, create and perform.

Far Infrared Sauna

Far Infrared Sauna

Modern life puts a lot of strain on our detoxification system – pollution, pesticides, heavy metals and alcohol all take their toll!

Research shows that in a conventional sauna only 5% of your sweat is toxins and the remainder is water. In an Infrared Sauna, 15% of your sweat is toxic waste ranging from pesticides to toxic heavy metals. This is because Infrared Light vibrates your cells, encouraging them to release their toxins through the skin – it’s a fantastic way to increase your metabolism and detoxify by simply lying down and relaxing.

See downloadable PDF document for more info on the benefits of the Infra-Red Sauna.

Chelation Therapy

Chelation Therapy

Chelation Therapy is the process of introducing a “binding” substance into the body either orally or intravenously. This substance attaches (binds) itself to heavy metal residues (cadmium, arsenic, aluminium, mercury - amalgam fillings, copper) and metabolic wastes so that they can be safely eliminated from the body in the urine and faeces.

Chelation comes from the Greek word meaning ‘claw’ (it doesn’t feel like a claw, the treatment just acts like one by grabbing toxins and waste).

Due to the binding effect of the Chelation therapy, it is a treatment that can be considered for all conditions of reduced blood flow or heavy metal toxicity:

  • cadmium, arsenic, copper aluminium or mercury poisoning
  • coronary artery disease
  • cerebral vascular disease
  • peripheral vascular disease
  • angina
  • vertigo
  • tinnitus
  • senility

Patients have reported improvements in:

  • Coronary Heart Disease Symptoms.
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease Symptoms.
  • Exercise ability.
  • Skin texture and tone.
  • Sense of wellbeing.
  • Sexual function.
  • Memory.
  • Hair colour.

Patients have reported reduced:

  • Blood pressure.
  • Parkinson’s symptoms.
  • Liver spots and fine Lines.
  • Senility and Alzheimer’s symptoms.

Intravenous Vitamin C

Intravenous Vitamin C

We need to replenish our water-soluble vitamins such as Vitamins B and C daily.

While we can get these vitamins from various foods, many of us don’t always consume enough on a daily basis - not to mention common poor digestion of the whole foods we do eat. Also Stress, pollution, smoking, alcohol, caffeine and eating processed foods also deplete our stores of essential vitamins.

Intravenous Vitamin C is absorbed directly into your cells and therefore bypasses the need to be absorbed by the Gut.

High dose vitamin C helps improve skin texture and tone, recovery from injury and energy levels. Vitamin C is also a very potent anti-oxidant that helps to reduce future cellular damage (due to free radicals) and therefore rapid ageing.

Intramuscular / Intravenous Vitamin B

Intramuscular / Intravenous Vitamin B

Feeling vital, looking great and having a healthy body is dependant upon the ability of your cells to produce energy, communicate, and divide in a healthy way.

To perform at their best, your cells need high levels of nutrients - modern foods are very low in essential nutrients and believe it or not, due to high levels of stress many of the nutrients we do get aren’t absorbed as well as they should be!

B Vitamins have been shown to:

  • Support and increase metabolism.
  • Help maintain healthy skin and muscle tone.
  • Enhance immune and nervous system function.
  • Promote healthy cell growth and division.

Due to Vitamin B’s positive effects on cell function and metabolism it increases energy levels and helps combat the symptoms and causes of stress, depression, and cardiovascular disease.

Psycho-Somatic (Mind/Body) Therapy

Psycho-Somatic (Mind/Body) Therapy

“You’re a pain in the neck”, “They broke my heart”, “I have a gut feeling about this”, “You make me sick to my stomach”…

The issues are in the tissues.

It is well known that emotions are stored within our bodies. It has been discovered, in massage and many other hands on therapies, that when tissues are released there is often an accompanying emotional release. People also constantly refer to stress as the cause of their tension “My shoulders always get tight when I’m stressed.”

Psychologists agree that around 99% of the day we are being run by our subconscious mind, the automatic part of our brain that runs all of our past programming and vital bodily functions.

Subconscious programming begins at birth, and we get most of it from our parents! As an infant and child we are like little sponges and have no choice but to sub-consciously absorb our parents reactions and behaviour. Have you ever heard someone say “I’ll never do that to my children, or behave in that way”, yet they do! - because that’s exactly what was programmed into them by their parents.

We all have goals and desires and usually know exactly what we need to do to get them, but because our subconscious rules for 99% of the day, we get what has been programmed into us, rather than what we consciously desire.

Psycho-Somatic (Mind / Body) therapy not only allows you to become aware of your emotions, habits and behaviours, it also helps you release subconscious programming that is holding you back.

Releasing unwanted programs and emotions not only changes your mind, it transforms your body. We can all see, by looking at someone’s face, the kind of life they have led, and the dominant thoughts they have had.

Your body and your life is a direct reflection of your dominant thoughts, decisions and actions.

Specialised Musculo-Skeletal Therapy

Specialised Musculo-Skeletal Therapy is designed to get to the core problem if you have pain, discomfort or tension you can’t seem to resolve.

This advanced therapy uses a system of assessment based on the “Survival Totem Pole” (as created by Paul Chek, Founder of the C.H.E.K Institute). As you can see from the picture, breathing is at the top and is therefore most important for survival. Your body will do anything to keep breathing in the most efficient way possible. Anything below breathing on the Totem Pole has the chance of being sacrificed by your body to ensure you breathe optimally.

For example:

You may come in to see us because you have Lower Back Pain, which would match up with the spine at the bottom of the Totem Pole. You may think your problem lies with your lower back because that is where your pain is. However, because your spine is at the bottom of the Totem Pole, a dysfunction in anything above it could be the cause of your back pain.

To help you resolve this problem, you may require some therapy to your lower back (spine), but also to an area higher on the Totem Pole (perhaps your teeth or jaw). To solely focus attention on your lower back will not give you long term relief if something higher on the Totem Pole is not functioning correctly.

This concept can be applied to any section of the Totem Pole, or anywhere you are experiencing discomfort. Your body will prioritise the section above on the Totem Pole, over the section below.

A couple of less commonly thought of examples which relate to the Totem Pole are that a nutritional problem can be the cause of lower back pain, as can an emotional problem.

The Totem Pole therefore serves as a truly holistic model for health.

Breathing Assessment

Poor health and chronic illnesses are almost exclusively as a result of either one or both of the following conditions:

  • Uncontrolled spasm within the tube network of the body which consists of several hundred thousand kilometers of blood vessels, digestive, respiratory and lymph tubes.
  • Incomplete or interrupted supply of oxygen to the 100 trillion cells which make up the human body.

Both of the above are DIRECTLY controlled by your breathing so it stands to reason that if your breathing is even a little out of balance problems will occur.

The average person breathes around 30,000 times a day. It makes sense to get this function as close to normal as possible.

A full Breathing Assessment takes around 45 minutes and provides you with a full picture of your breathing mechanics, rate, volume and efficiency.

This is completely non-invasive and involves nothing more complex that a small tube under your nose to sample the exhaled air. You receive a printout of your breathing graph for comparison with a graph showing functional breathing.

It also provides an evaluation of your postural condition and other lifestyle influences which would be likely to cause dysfunctional breathing.

Once you can see what is wrong with your breathing it is possible to do something to correct the issues.

Yoga helps to build strength and flexibility as well as to relax the body and mind, bringing mental focus & clarity, balance and positivity.

Other benefits include an improvement in aerobic lung capacity, increased muscle strength and endurance.
